Alex
Kennedy Debut Cut Short at ORP
Aztec, NM (April
30, 2007)-Picking one of the
most popular races of the season to make your ASA Late Model Series Northern
Division debut is a gutsy move! Fifty cars showed up on the entry list for last
Saturday’s ASI Limited 100 at O’Reilly Raceway Park. Fifteen-year-old Alex
Kennedy from Aztec, NM was not intimidated by the large field or the large
racetrack. Despite never having competed on a track larger than 3/8ths of a
mile, Alex qualified 15th out of the 46 cars taking time for the
event. Alex was running 12th place gaining on the leaders and headed
to the front when a burnt out wire caused his engine to lose power and ended
his night prematurely. “The car was really hooked up tonight,” said Alex after
the race,” I have to thank Ken Wills and all the guys from 5K for giving me
such an awesome car. My Crew Chief Rollie Christman got this car handling
great!” Next up for this energetic youngster is the Bob Milner Memorial 125 at
Grundy County Speedway on May 26th.
The ultra fast
0.686-mile track just outside of Indianapolis was quicker and larger than
anything fifteen year old Alex Kennedy had ever raced before! Just making the
show would be a tall task for this youngster running for the rookie of the year
title in the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division this season. Alex had a
fast car thanks to his 5K Motorsports team including help from Challenge
Division drivers Derek Thorn and Kris Stump. Crew Chief Rollie Christman and
spotter Robert Gayton got Alex comfortable with the car and he showed excellent
car control all race. Qualifying fifteenth fastest out of forty-six cars taking
time got the 2007 season off to a great start. A fluke burnt wire ended Alex’s
night after just sixty-three of the scheduled one hundred laps. “We were really
fast and running some guys down when we had problems,” said Alex after the
race. Next up for this energetic youngster from New Mexico is the Bob Milner Memorial
125 at Grundy County Speedway on May 26th.
Alex thanks his
sponsors from O’Reilly Raceway Park that included:

Sponsorship
opportunities still exist on Alex’s No. 15 car for this season and beyond.
The Dream Factory,
Inc. (a 501(c)(3) organization) was founded in 1980 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky,
by Charles Henault, a South Central Bell employee, who wanted to create a
volunteer organization dedicated to granting the dreams of children with
critical or chronic illnesses. Currently, there are more than 30 chapters
across the United States with over 5,000 volunteers who work to produce and
deliver dreams, visit children and their families in the hospital and their
homes, arrange special celebrations and conduct fundraising events for
individual children. This volunteer support ensures that the maximum percentage
of donations are used for the procurement and distribution of dreams. “I feel
so proud to represent Dream Factory Inc and bring racing to these kids that
don’t get to do the fun stuff I get to do,” said Alex Kennedy.
Aztec, New Mexico’s
Alex Kennedy had an adventurous 2006 season. Starting the year in Legends cars
at the Las Vegas Road Course in January, he would have never guessed that he
would end the season making his debut in the ASA Late Model Series in
Nashville. ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” show would even feature Alex during a
special about young drivers! Nicknamed the “New Mexico Rising Star” at his home
track of Sandia Motorsports Park, Alex lived up to that moniker with more
firsts last season. Alex was named a National Ambassador for Dream Factory Inc
in the off-season and will be racing in the ASA Late Model Series Northern
division for 5K Motorsports in 2007.
This past summer
ESPN’s Mike Massaro interviewed Alex and his parents for a special “Outside the
Lines” special about young drivers. “I can’t drive to Sonic to get a cheeseburger
but I can drive a racecar,” said Alex. Copies of the “Outside the Lines” show
are available on request and can be viewed on Alex Kennedy’s website at http://www.alexkennedyracing.com.
