Aztec, NM
(October 26, 2007)-What
better way to get ready for the season ending ASA Late Model Series race at
Nashville than more racing? After finishing up his exciting rookie year in the
ASA Late Model Series Northern Division, fifteen-year-old Alex Kennedy headed
out to Concord Speedway to try his hand at Super Late Model racing in the UARA
Stars series. After qualifying for the final automatic position in qualifying,
Alex was then told there was a timing error and he would have to race his way
into the main event via the last chance race. “OK let’s do it, “ said Alex. At
a track he had never seen before practice, Alex Kennedy would lead every lap of
the twenty-five-lap shootout withstanding four restarts to advance to the main.
Starting towards the back of the field Alex was moving through the pack when a
spin occurred in front of him. As he slowed up to avoid the caution another
driver got into the side of Kennedy’s car knocking the front end out of
alignment. Despite driving an ill-handling car the rest of the 150-lap event
Alex was in 12th place with just two laps to go when he was spun out
for the second time. While waiting for traffic to clear Alex fell off the lead
lap. Driving for ARCA RE/MAX driver Alex Yontz, Alex Kennedy impressed his crew
with his smooth driving style and ability to adapt quickly to the UARA Series’
fastest track.
Aztec, New Mexico’s
Alex Kennedy had an adventurous 2006 season. Starting the year in Legends cars
at the Las Vegas Road Course in January, he would have never guessed that he
would end the season making his debut in the ASA Late Model Series in
Nashville. ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” show would even feature Alex during a
special about young drivers! Nicknamed the “New Mexico Rising Star” at his home
track of Sandia Motorsports Park, Alex lived up to that moniker with more
firsts last season. Alex was named a National Ambassador for Dream Factory Inc
in the off-season and became the youngest driver in ASALMS series history to
post a podium finish this season! Two podium finishes and five top eleven
finishes highlighted a successful rookie campaign for Alex Kennedy in the rough
and tough Northern Division of the ASALMS this year!
The Dream Factory,
Inc. was founded in 1980 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, by Charles Henault, a South
Central Bell employee, who wanted to create a volunteer organization dedicated
to granting the dreams of children with critical or chronic illnesses.
Currently, there are more than 30 chapters across the United States with over
5,000 volunteers who work to produce and deliver dreams. “I feel so proud to
represent Dream Factory Inc and bring racing to these kids that don’t get to do
the fun stuff I get to do,” said Alex Kennedy. A group of Dream Factory kids
from Tennessee will be on hand this week to support Alex.
