Lexington,
Michigan (02/15/2006): As the continuing wave of young teenage drivers
look to advance their respective racing careers by moving up into the
ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts, one thing is
certain, these youngsters are talented!
Not only are these young
drivers talented and full of unlimited potential, now with the rapid
growth of the ASALMS, drivers are coming from all over the country. One
driver in particular is that of Aztec, New Mexico driver, Alex Kennedy.
Kennedy,
who picked up an amazing 11 total track, state, and National titles
while competing on Dirt, Paved, and Road Courses in a Legends Car all
over the country during the 2005 season, will take the next step in his
racing career.
The 14-year-old will run a partial ASALMS
Challenge Division schedule in 2006 with hopes of going for the Pat
Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in 2007. Kennedy will
tentatively make his ASALMS debut during the Alamo 200 at the San
Antonio (TX) Speedway on April 1st.
In 2005 Alex Kennedy was
crowned World Road Course Young Lions Champion in his Legends car.
While chasing the Legends Championship Alex began putting in seat time
throughout 2005 in his #61 Late Model at Sandia (NM) Motor Speedway in
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In total during the 2005 season,
Kennedy racked up an amazing 18 feature wins and 34 Top Five finishes
in just 42 starts! "The most nerve racking event of 2005 was giving my
first big speech with Jack Roush in the front row”. Laughed Kennedy
after the 2005 Legends Series awards ceremony in Charlotte, North
Carolina.
Alex Kennedy has been racing since the age of five and
then at eight years old, Alex began motorsports racing in Quarter
Midgets. As a novice, Kennedy won the regional championship. Each level
of competition brought him Track, State, and Regional Championships.
As
an 11-year-old, Kennedy ran in the Bandolero Road Course Series in Las
Vegas and won the Silver State Championship Cup. As a 12-year-old Alex
began racing Legends and captured several local titles.
2006
will see Alex Kennedy competing in select ASALMS Challenge Divisions
events as well as a full schedule in his USLMA Late Model at Sandia
(NM) Motor Speedway. Kennedy will continue to compete in the Pro
Legends division throughout 2006 when the Late Models are not running.
Road
Racing Champion Crew Chief, Robert Gayton offered these comments on his
young protege. " Alex can drive anything I put under him! If I give him
a loose car he gets the most out of it and his lap times are very
consistent. If I give him a tight car he adjusts and gets all he can
out of it again with very consistent lap times.” Gayton continued.
“I
have watched Alex run lap after lap in his Late Model on a 3/8ths mile
fairly flat track and his times are identical to 100th of a second
seven out of 10 laps. Now that is a Crew Chiefs dream." Gayton ended.
Kennedy
will steer his Chevrolet Monte Carlo carrying sponsorship from:
Educational Technologies Resources Inc., as well as Stratosphere Las
Vegas, West Mesa Aviation, Maverick Racing, Integrity Sports Marketing,
San Juan Signs, and Rivas Auto Finish.
