Alex Kennedy Joins Spraker Racing
as Development Driver
|
|
Sixteen year old Alex Kennedy has joined Spraker Racing Enterprises as
a Development Driver in their NASCAR Late Model Series program for
2008, based out of their Mooresville, NC location.
The talented youngster from Aztec, NM will compete in the NASCAR
Whelan All-American Series at Caraway Speedway. The Spraker operation
has fielded entries in this division for the past four years at
Caraway, compiling an impressive record of victories and top-tens at
the Asheboro, NC half-mile track. Owner, Jeff Spraker, well-known for
mentoring young talent, states: "Alex is the real deal. We have tested
him twice, and he has a natural ability behind the wheel. He has
tremendous potential, and we are pleased to have him join our
organization."
Kennedy has been racing since the age of five, and has accumulated a
stellar record of accomplishments including: track, state, regional and
national championships (11 in 2005 Legends Cars) , the Bandoleros
Silver State Champion Cup, and the 2005 World Road Course Young Lions
Champions for Legends Cars. He moved up to Late Models in 2006 and won
his very first heat race. He posted four top-ten finishes in four
starts in USLMA - all at the age of 14! He progressed to the ASA Late
Model Series in 2007 where he finished in the top-ten in Series points
with four top-three finishes, and six top-tens during the season.
Comments Kennedy: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work
with Jeff Spraker and his team. I know they have top-notch equipment,
and I'm looking forward to driving their cars. This is definitely a
huge step in my driving career!"
Spraker Racing Enterprises currently fields an ARCA RE/MAX Series
team, and operates a full-service fabrication/ consulting business with
customers in all major racing series. The business was established in
1979 in Spraker's native upstate New York, and expanded to operate the
Mooresville site in 2000. During the 2007 season, the Spraker team ran
the NASCAR Busch East (now Camping World) Series, as well as selected
events in the ARCA and Busch Series.

DEXTER BEAN & TEAM GLOCK IMPRESSIVE
IN DEBUT AT DAYTONA
|
|
Dexter
Bean made the most of his recent visit to the high banks of Daytona,
posting "top of the chart" times in every practice session leading up
to the ARCA 200. The Spraker Racing prepared Monte Carlo was the in the
top 10 in the initial practices and he was the fastest car in "Happy
Hour", the final on-track session before the Saturday afternoon event.
This was the debut for Dexter driving the GLOCK sponsored machine, and
reunites him with team owner and crew chief, Jeff Spraker.
A live television audience watched on SPEED TV as Dexter meticulously
cut his way through the field, advancing from his 20th starting spot ,
up to 14th before a transmission problem forced the Team GLOCK driver
in to the pits on lap 17. The Spraker Racing crew installed a new
transmission in record time, but the Westby, WI driver was many laps in
arrears at this point.
But, determined to make the most of this difficult situation, Dexter
took to the track for a re-start on the inside front row on lap 33 and
quickly pushed his Monte Carlo in to the lead. He was blistering the
track with some of the fastest times recorded during the event, and ran
in the top three, until the 10 lap-to-go mark. At this point,
owner/crew chief Jeff Spraker, advised Dexter to pull out of the draft
and let the cars on the lead lap race for the win. Spraker comments:
"We had a great car all weekend, but due to a $5 part breaking, we had
to head to the garage to change out the transmission. Dexter did a
great job and he showed that Team GLOCK is a force to be reckoned with
this year."
States
driver Bean: "It wasn't the final outcome we had hoped for (22nd), but
everyone knew we were here with a car that could contend for the win!
We're gearing up now for the next race at Salem, which is a track where
we have had success in the past - hopefully we'll have a little more
luck there!"

Smyrna, GA, February 1, 2008
When Dexter Bean gets behind the wheel of the Team GLOCK Monte Carlo
for the February 9th running of the ARCA 200 at Daytona, it will mark
the 50th career start in the ARCA RE/MAX Series for the 21 year old
driver.
The Westby, Wisconsin native turned his first laps in this Series with
family-owned team cars in 2005, running four events and posting two
top-10 finishes. It was at this time that Dexter first worked with Jeff
Spraker, who acted as Crew Chief and consultant on these initial
efforts. It was apparent from the beginning that these two shared the
same passion, desire and determination to succeed, and they have
developed these attributes into a strong sense of trust and
communication that has resulted in continued success on the track !
Dexter has compiled an outstanding record of achievement in the three
seasons that he has run in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, participating
full-time in 2006, and 2007. To date, he has recorded 17 Top-10
finishes, and topped off the 2007 season with a third place in the
overall ARCA RE/MAX Series Point standings.
2008 will mark a significant change for Dexter, as he has been selected
to drive the Team GLOCK Chevrolets which are owned and prepared by Jeff
Spraker and his crew from Spraker Racing Enterprises in Mooresville,
NC.. This operation has 30 years of racing heritage, and Spraker brings
a wealth of knowledge, as a driver and owner, to this team. GLOCK, the
Austrain firearms maunfacturer, recently renewed their contract with
the Spraker organization for a second year, and the team will run the
entire ARCA Series for this season. States Spraker: "GLOCK has given us
a great opportunity to work together in 2008. We had a successful test
here in December and we are optimistic about our chances at Daytona.
Dexter really looked good drafting during the test - that should be
beneficial with so many rookie contenders!" Driver Bean adds: "It feels
good to come back to Daytona having run here twice in the past. You
learn something every time, and I'm hopeful that our good test results,
coupled with our past experience, will pay off with a good run!" It is
interesting to note that former driver Spraker, and his young driver
met only once as competitors on the race track - at the Daytona ARCA
event in 2005. That day Spraker bested the young Bean with a 9th place
finish, and Dexter is anxious to see if he can eclipse his mentor's
results, which would be a credit to both in 2008!
The past month has provided Dexter with the opportunity to meet many
GLOCK dealers and distributors at several shows, including appearances
with the team show car and simulator in Columbia, SC and Greenville,
NC. Both Dexter and Jeff Spraker will be attending the annual SHOT Show
(Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade) in Las Vegas, just prior to the ARCA
200. The GLOCK show car will also be on display at this show, which is
the largest and most comprehensive trade exposition for professionals
involved with shooting sports and hunting industries. Attendance is
estimated to be over 40,000, with buyers from 50 states and 75
countries.
